My favorite stop on our journey was MonteCassino, the oldest Benedictine monastery founded by St. Benedict in 529.  But, before we got there, we had to travel up a mountain on a bus with a road that was really not that wide, and it was extremely curvy – not the best combination, bus and curves but we made it.  The view was absolutely wonderful coming up and going down.  As you can see, there were snow-capped mountains in the background, and since it was such a clear day, we could see for miles and miles.  Going up, I could definitely see, once more, why people consider mountains such holy places – we were literally ascending into the heavens, and it was amazing.  And the castle that you see in the first picture was built by the monks for protection (I think).  (taken 3.1.2015)
