This basilica contains the Franciscan order that took care of Dante’s Tomb (as far as I am aware of) but we stopped in for another reason.  The basilica has sunk down 3.5 meters since being built and, because of that, frequently floods.  This catacomb picture lies right underneath the altar, and there is a little window that you can light up to see the water.  It’s pretty cool, and there were little bridges connecting the altar to the rest of the congregation because it floods between the priest and the congregation.  How cool is that?  To have a little stream in mass!  (taken 9.13.2014)
