After Comacchio, we headed over to Ravenna to check out some of the interesting sites, including il Mausoleo di Galla Placidia which is right outside la Basilica di San Vitale.  This mausoleum was absolutely stunning inside, all of the walls and ceilings were covered in mosaics made of tiny pieces of glass, each placed at a different angle.  Who knows how long it took the workers to make this!  And we have no idea how they did so.  Built during the Roman era, the three tombs inside are empty due to a tumultuous political climate at the time.  This mausoleum is probably the most beautiful human-made artwork I have ever seen.  (taken 9.13.2014)
